Whakaruruhau | A Sheltering Place

Welcome to

ST JAMES’ CATHOLIC SCHOOL
TE KURA KATORIKA O HATO HEEMI

Tumuaki | Principal’s Welcome

Tēnā koutou katoa –  Haere mai – We have planned this website to be the place for all things St James’ – information, links and happenings.

Our Vision: To grow Catholic, Christian young people, who are confident, connected lifelong learners, inspired by the teachings of Jesus, and who make a positive difference in their community.

Our Motto: To Live the Truth – Veritatem Vivere – comes to us from St James. We live the Gospel as Catholics welcoming, responding practically and positively.

He Whakaaro Rangatira: Te Whakaruruhau – A sheltering place – given to St James’ School by James Kenrick, speaks of a sheltering place where all people are welcomed, supported and nurtured.

St James’, founded by the Mercy sisters in 1958 – has been quietly shining for 66 years, supporting families to educate their children in the faith. Our call to live this vision makes it real and serves those around us with love. This new website will enable you to find the information you need – please let us know if you would like to see anything else on the site.

In 2023 The Ministry of Education officially approved the school name change from St James’ School to St James’ Catholic School Te Kura Katorika o Hato Heemi.

Our Vision

LS2 need your help – WANTED old toys at home, broken, mismatched, outgrown…

Mon Aug 24 03:31pm

If your child has any old toys at home, broken, mismatched, outgrown, or well-loved, we would love to receive them as donations at school. No toy is too small or imperfect! All toys will be used in creative ways, so they do not need to be complete or in perfect condition.

Please drop donations off at the school office by this Friday.

We are looking for hard toys, such as plastic toys, figurines, cars, or game pieces. Please avoid sending soft toys, as these are difficult to use for our project.

Thank you for helping us give old and much-loved toys a new purpose!

Thu Jul 23 03:31pm

As you know, we are currently fundraising to help cover the cost of essential repairs to our school pool.  Thank you for your ongoing support of this important fundraiser.

Tomorrow (Friday 24 July), the eldest child in each family will bring home one raffle booklet. Please check school bags for the booklet. Each raffle ticket is $10.00, and thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, we have some fantastic prizes up for grabs.  There is also a special prize for the family who sells the most tickets!

We ask that all raffle ticket butts (sold and unsold), along with any money collected, are returned to the school office by Monday, 17 August 2026.

We encourage you to sell tickets to family, friends and neighbours and work colleagues.  If you sell all your tickets, additional raffle booklets are available from the school office.  If you choose to sell tickets door-to-door in your neighbourhood, please ensure children are supervised by an adult at all times.

The raffle winners will be drawn at the PTFA Whānau Quiz Night on Saturday, 22 August 2026.

Thank you for helping us raise funds to restore our school pool for the enjoyment of all our students.  Every ticket sold makes a difference!
